My last visit to Crete is back in the 90s - with my parents. Though it has changed a lot. But still it’s a beautiful island to explore.
For exploring Crete at it’s best, you’ll need to rent a car as the island is huge (260km lenght and 60km width). From west to east, from nord to south it has everything you expect from a mediterrean island.
The east coast is full of beautiful fields full of olive trees and in the total east the palm beach Vai - a must see.
Driving through beautiful rocky and bushy landscapes towards the middle of the island you can visit the antique archaelogical excavation Knossos, where the first european high colture of Mineons had it’s palace. The capital Iraklion with its beautiful old town full of yummie restaurants and bars to the party capital of Malia.
Driving more and more to the west you nedd to visit the beautiful town Rethymnon. There you’ll find beautiful castels and old buildings - very dreamy.
Arriving on the west coast you’ll enjoy the most beautiful sunsets on white sandy beaches, I call it kinda carribean feeling in europe.
However I had an amazing time in Crete and descovered some beautiful places. I rested like a king and came back totally relaxed.
